The absolute division is back for EBI 14 coming in a few short weeks. Set for December 3, Gordon Ryan looks to defend his EBI Absolute title against a stacked division of some worthy contenders. When looking at the brackets this is a very deep field with a number of men with the abilities to threaten Ryan and his championship.

When looking at the tournament lineup the conversation must start with Ryan. The Danaher Death Squad athlete is having a stellar 2017 in which he earned an ADCC gold medal in the 88 kilograms division. He also took silver in the absolute division in that same tournament; losing to Felipe Pena in the finals. His 2017 resume includes wins over the likes of Vagner Rocha, Lucas Barbosa, Dillon Danis, Keenan Cornelius and a number of the biggest names within the sport.

But that doesn’t mean Ryan is without threats at EBI 14. Craig Jones is a name to watch in this tournament. The Australian grappler burst onto the scene at ADCC where he defeated Leandro Lo and Murilo Santana; shocking many onlookers. He reached the semifinals of that tournament and has since defeated Ben Egli, Kit Dale and Bob Firas. This isn’t his first EBI appearance as he competed at EBI 11 where he defeated Nathan Orchard and Darragh O’Conaill.

Rustam Chsiev is also back for this tournament. Chsiev is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous submission competitors who doesn’t boast the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu background as many of the others. Instead he leans on his Sambo and wrestling backgrounds which have allowed him to find success on many competition stages. His resume includes wins over Davi Ramos, Rafael Lovato Jr, and Romulo Barral.

The field includes a number of athletes that have experience in EBI and beyond. Karen Darabedyan is an accomplished mixed martial artist that stepped onto the mat at EBI 3 where he had an exciting contest about another EBI champion, Garry Tonon. Guybson Sa, Travis Moore, Marcel Goncalves, Adam Sachnoff, Dan Borovic and Daniel O’Brien are back for another EBI event. Andrew Kimler, Jesseray Childrey, Casey Hellenberg and Patrick Donabedian are all making their promotional debut.

EBI 14 is scheduled for December 3, which is the same day as Submission Underground 6. EBI 14 will be available for live streaming via the UFC Fight Pass platform.
