Boxing: Pascal vs Kovalev 2 Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

It’s Thanksgiving weekend, and fans looking for a little combat sports action to break away from the family time have the latest from HBO World Championship Boxing to help them.

Live on HBO tonight, former Light Heavyweight champion of the world Sergey Kovalev takes his first fight since his controversial back to back losses to Andre Ward. Kovalev will be taking on Vyacheslav Shabranskyy in a fight to crown the new WBO champion at 175 pounds (Kovalev is the former WBO champ who lost the title to Andre Ward - it was declared vacant when Ward announced his retirement.) It’s a clear bounce-back fight meant to favor Kovalev, but at the same time, there is a level of intrigue here thanks to the somewhat questionable level of focus we have seen from Kovalev since those Ward losses. Can the Krusher regain his form and rule the division again? Tonight will be a step towards answering that question.

Kovalev vs. Shabranskyy airs live today Saturday, November 25 with a fight time of 10:00 p.m. ET on HBO. We’ll have results and discussion right here.
