UFC 216 post-fight poll: Will Conor McGregor ever fight Tony Ferguson?

Dana White says Conor McGregor vs. Tony Ferguson is the fight that must happen next, but will it?

MMA: UFC 216-Ferguson vs Lee Joshua Dahl-USA TODAY Sports

Tony Ferguson was crowned the UFC’s interim lightweight champion following Saturday night’s triangle choke win over Kevin Lee at UFC 216. Afterwards, Ferguson called out Conor McGregor, telling him to “defend or vacate, motherf—ker!”

Things are rarely straightforward when it comes to projecting Conor McGregor’s future. He’s approaching almost a full year since his last UFC fight, a sensational TKO of Eddie Alvarez to win the lightweight title, but he’s a little over a month removed from a 10th round TKO loss in the boxing ring to Floyd Mayweather. Coach John Kavanagh wants McGregor vs. Nate Diaz 3 to happen on St. Patrick’s Day, McGregor himself as hinted at Diaz being one of his options for his return to the Octagon. The Irish superstar laid out everything from the Ferguson vs. Lee winner, an MMA fight against Paulie Malignaggi, a Mayweather rematch, Khabib Nurmagomedov in Russia, even Georges St-Pierre.

At the UFC 216 post-fight press conference, Dana White shut down any idea of McGregor vs. Diaz 3 being next.

“Nobody’s talked about Diaz,” White told reporters at the UFC 216 post-fight press conference, per MMA Fighting’s Alexander K. Lee. “Diaz has never been talked about. That’s internet bullsh*t. Tony’s the interim champion, Conor’s the champion, that’s the fight that makes sense. It’s the fight that has to happen, it doesn’t ‘make sense,’ it’s the fight that has to happen.”

Now that the dust has settled from UFC 216, our post-event question is a simple one: Are we going to see McGregor vs. Ferguson for the unified lightweight title? Answer the poll below, and if you’re a Bloody Elbow commenter, feel free to state your reason in the comments section.
