When Ronda Rousey was defeated in just 48 seconds at the hands (literally) of Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 last weekend, many questions came out of the result. Is Rousey really that out of her element on the feet? Can she come back from a second straight loss? Or is retirement the most viable option for the former champion?
One man that agrees with the latter assessment is famed boxing coach Freddie Roach. In a short conversation with TMZ Sports, Roach gave his assessment of the fight:
“Muay Thai is a stand-up fight game also. Muay Thai can go to the ground, but mostly it’s stand-up and she doesn’t do well with stand-up. Everyone has her number now.”
...
“(It was) 48 seconds of a beating, but that’s the fight game.”
He was then asked if he agreed with Rousey’s mother, AnnMaria De Mars, who stated that it’s time for Ronda to walk away from the sport. His response was short and to the point:
“She’s correct.”
