The Bellator 170 main event was a quick one, as former UFC LHW champion Tito Ortiz choked out three-time UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen just over two minutes into the opening round. This was Ortiz’s final fight of his legendary career, and he finished in style (and also held onto the choke even after Chael tapped and John McCarthy stepped in).
You can watch the highlights of his finish at the bottom of the page, courtesy of Fancy Combat. Here’s the accompanying play-by-play by Bloody Elbow’s Tim Burke:
Round 1 - Tito with a right and a left. Ortiz with a single leg. Chael reverses and works a front headlock. Looking for a front choke. Tito pulls his head out and works from the top. Chael looks for a guillotine. They stall out. Tito pops his head out and moves to mount. Chael gives up his back. Tito looking for a choke. Chael taps. Wow.
Tito Ortiz defeated Chael Sonnen by submission (rear naked choke), 2:03 of round 1
