Roufusport product Emmanuel Sanchez is set to take on dangerous finisher Georgi Karakhanyan this Saturday night at Bellator 170. Having already faced the likes of Pat Curran and Daniel Weichel, a match with Karakhanyan is the perfect caliber opponent for Sanchez to try and move into contender status. Before going to war, Sanchez caught up with Bloody Elbow to speak on his title aspirations, his level of his striking, and his prediction for his featherweight fight.
From up and comer in AJ McKee to a proven veteran in Georgi Karakhanyan:
“The switch up don’t change. Everyone out there is hunting for the belt. If you’re not hunting for the belt then why are you fighting? You shouldn’t be fighting. There’s only one reason, and one reason only that you should be fighting, and that’s to be the best at the world and be the best in the division. So for me, the change is not much man. It’s just another dance, just another opportunity for me to go out and rise and shine.”
You have a knack for diving for positions, will you try to avoid those situations against a dangerous submission threat?
“He’s a proven finisher everywhere, man. So is every opponent that I faced. Anyone that you face now, they can finish the fight anywhere, standing or on the ground. So for me, it’s about not being so much of a perfectionist. I’m a scrambler. I go out and I do things that people deem impossible. I’m looking to put on an exciting fight and dictate wherever the fight goes.”
How does Karakhanyan stack up against you on the feet?
“I think I’m on a completely different level. Everyone’s great going forward, but anyone going backwards, not a lot of guys are great going backwards. So, I feel like my pressure, my volume, my endurance, my tenacity, my ferocity, and my willingness to be able to go out and move. Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee; his hands can’t hit what his eyes won’t see.”
Prediction for Bellator 170?
“Looking to take it out in the first round, man. First or second round, getting my hand raised by knockout or submission.”
“There’s obviously all of the contenders, whoever’s in the way, but whoever the boss gives me, man. I’m not into calling people out. I’m into just whatever I need to go out and get closer to the belt. I know I will. First things first, is take out Georgi Karakhanyan. If I take out Georgi Karakhanyan, then I did something that Daniel Weichel and Pat Curran didn’t do, and go out and get my title shot.”
