Georgi Karakhanyan is looking for his third straight finish, as he is slated to face Emmanuel Sanchez this Saturday night at Bellator 170. Before marching into battle, Karakhanyan spoke to Bloody Elbow about finally letting his hands go, aspirations to be the first to finish Sanchez, and calls out Josh Thomson and Melvin Guillard.
In your last 2 fights you earned 2 KO victories. I thought you were a submission guy, what are you doing knocking people out?
“I finally let my hands go. I’ve been working on my hands a lot. It’s finally clicking. It took over 10 years for my hands to fly. The submissions will always be there, but I like letting my hands go so that’s what I’m going to do on January 15.”
Title contention with a win?
“I feel like Emmanuel’s past 2 fights were against some of my opponents that beat me, Weichel and Curran, and it went to a decision. Those guys couldn’t finish him, and I don’t think he’s ever been finished so that’s the one thing I look forward to doing, going out and getting that finish. If the title is there, I’ll take it. They want me to fight at 45 or 55, just stay busy. That’s the one thing I like to be as a fighter, just stay busy man.”
So, you are up for competing at both featherweight and lightweight?
“Either weight class is cool with me. I’ve been calling out Josh Thomson. His bitch ass is crying, whining saying I don’t move the needle, this and that, but he’s like a 60 year old man over there just sitting on Twitter talking shit. He doesn’t want to step up and fight me. I want to fight the top names at 55. Melvin Guillard I know is moving up to 170 but maybe we can get him on the cocaine diet and he can make the 55 pound weight.”
Will you be the first person to finish Emmanuel Sanchez?
“I’m going for a finish. I think I’ll get the finish for sure. The one thing about Sanchez, he comes forward and makes it a fight. I’m looking forward to fighting him on Saturday.”
Will you be looking to take it to the ground or do you want to test yourself on the feet?
“Ahhhh, I can’t tell you that, haha. I’m a fighter where I don’t go in there with any gameplans. I just let it go however the fight goes. Wherever the fight goes, I feel 100% comfortable and confident.”
