UFC Fight Night: Arlovski vs. Barnett live results, discussion, play by play

Live, blow-by-blow updates for today's UFC event in Hamburg, which is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Josh Barnett and Andrei Arlovski.

Join us today on Bloody Elbow for live results, discussion, round scoring and play-by-play as UFC Fight Night Hamburg, or UFC Fight Night 93 if you prefer, takes place in the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany.

The headliner will see veteran heavyweight clash as Josh Barnett meets Andrei Arlovski. The co-main features the return of Alexander Gustafsson, who will meet Jan Blachowicz in a light heavyweight battle.

Main Card

Andrei Arlovski vs. Josh Barnett

Round 1 - Barnett hurt Arlovki right away. Now Barnett is wobbled. Now Barnett partially drops Arlovski! Wow! They clinch up and throw some knees. Elbow from Arlovski. Arlovski has a cut in his hairline. Arlovski with a surprising outside trip takedown. He landed a hammerfist, then stood up. Andrei just sort of grabbed his legs and...stood there. He's not doing anything, and the ref finally separated them. Arlovski backs Barnett off with  a right, but Josh just smiles. Barnett looks for a takedown but it's not there. 10-9 Arlovski.

Round 2 - Barnett clips him right away and clinches up. Arlovski reverses but they stall out and get reset by the ref. They clinch in the center and land body shots. Both land short punches. Back against the cage. Nothing going on. A few knees, but that's about it. Arlovski gets an outside trip, but Barnett rolls through beautifully and gets top position. Immediately goes to mount. Some elbows. He opened up with GnP with 30 seconds to go. Arlovski rolled over and he's eating shots. He made it out of the round though. 10-9 Barnett.

Round 3 - Big right from Arlovski. Barnett responds with a pawing jab. Arlovski opens up, but eats an uppercut. He lands one of his own, and a big knee. Barnett begs off from an eyepoke, but the ref doesn't jump in and Arlovski keeps bombing. Barnett grabs an arm and drags Arlovski to the ground. He moves to mount with over two minutes to go. Arlovski gives up his back, and Barnett sunk the choke. It's over!

Jan Blachowicz vs. Alexander Gustafsson

Round 1 - Both men exchanging immediately. Gustafsson with some kicks, Blachowicz with a right. Now a combo from Blachowicz. Gus fires back though. Big right. They're throwing down. Blahowicz digging to the body. Gustafsson's eye is dinged up. They clinch up and throw some knees. A knee and uppercut from Blachowicz. He looks really good here so far, while Gus looks very hittable. Nice trip takedown from Gus. A couple of sharp elbows. A few more. 10-9 Gustafsson I guess.

Round 2 - They're both throwing down early. Blachowicz cracked Gus with a right, Gus responded in kind. Then Gus used a beautiful fake to get a takedown 20 seconds in. Gustafsson cut him open with an elbow. He passed to side, but Blachowicz immediately regained full guard. More elbows, and a big right from Gustafsson. More elbows, and there's a lot of blood now. He spun for an armbar but Gustafsson defended. Blachowicz is doing nothing to try to get up. Gus finally backs out of guard and tries to jump back in to gain side control, but Blachowicz won't allow it. 10-9 Gustafsson.

Round 3 - Blachowicz bringing the pressure early, but Gus strafes him with a right hook. Blachowicz responds with his own right and a hard body kick though. Big shot send Gustafsson's head flying back. He immediately steps up and takes it to the floor though. Once again, he started banging with elbows. His pace isn't high, but it's enough to maintain the position. Blachowicz is again doing nothing to escape. After getting shut down on a guard pass, the ref stood them up with under two minutes to go. After Blachowicz whiffed on two strikes, Gus took him right back down. More elbows. 10-9 and 30-27 Gustafsson, but not a great performance.

Ryan Bader vs. Ilir Latifi

Round 1 - Latifi tied up and Bader just missed with a right hook. Jab by Bader, and a head kick. Latifi is attempting to tie up but Bader keeps shaking him off. Body kick by Bader. And another. Latifi leaned into a head kick, then just missed with a punch. Latifi finally connected with a solid right. Another connected. Latifi backed him up and scored with a long left that dropped him! Bader up quickly, but that gave him the round. 10-9 Latifi.

Round 2 - Bader with a right. Latifi wades in with a combination. Nice jab by Bader. Bader shoots in and ends up in a guillotine. He quickly scrambled away. Latifi clinched up, then scored with a short right on the exit. Latifi ducks a Bader right, but he connects with it a few seconds later. Latifi leaned right into a Bader knee and he's out! Walk off KO!

Tae Hyun Bang vs. Nick Hein

Round 1 - Slow start. Leg kick from Bang. Missed with a head kick. Now Hein whiffs on one. Nice left hook from Hein. Bang with his own. Hein with a right and he gets a takedown. Hein tried to advance position but Bang got back to his feet. Both missed with wild rights. Hein slips a right hook. Nothing round other than the takedown. 10-9 Hein.

Round 2 - Hard body kick and a right hook from Bang. Both connect. Hein went down briefly, but may have slipped. He popped up immediately and clinched up. After an extended time there stalemated, they separate. Bang just missed with a head kick. Hein with a combo. Bang with a short right that connected. Hein to the body. Hein charged in and threw Bang to the ground. He got up quickly, but Hein controlled Bang against the cage. Bang hit his own throw and they went back to the center. Body kick from Bang. 10-9 Bang.

Round 3 - Hein with a front kick. Body kick and a right from Bang. Counter left hook from Bang, that apparently opened a cut. No, they collided heads and it's Bang that's bleeding. Hein staggered Bang with a punch, but he recovered quickly. Definitely the heaviest shot of the fight. Hein still charging forward with his head. Bang with two rights, moving forward. They exchange in the pocket. Hein with a left, Bang with a combo. Bang with a body kick as Hein connects with a left. Tough to score, but I'll go Hein 10-9 and 29-28.

Preliminary Card

Jessin Ayari vs. Jim Wallhead

Round 1 - Leg kicks from both men. They're both having trouble establishing their range. Avari is circling a lot too. Wallhead tied him up but Avari escaped quickly. Avari with more low kicks. Nice uppercut from Ayari, and a leg kick. Ayari charges in with a left. Wallhead with his own punch that lands. Quick right from Ayari. Wallhead is walking him down but not connecting much. Hard counter right from Wallhead. Not a great round. 10-9 Ayari.

Round 2 - Ayari remaining elusive early in round 2. Nice overhand right connects for Wallhead though. Ayari fired back. Beautiful uppercut from Ayari. And a left hook. They both exchange in the pocket, but Ayari gets right back on his bike again. Ayari finally stopped circling and took the center. Hard leg kick from Ayari. Another uppercut. Wallhead is getting frustrated. They exchange again, briefly. But there's not a lot happening overall. Quick combo from Wallhead. 10-9 Ayari.

Round 3 - Ayari came out aggressive. For a little while, anyway. Ayari digs to the body. And an uppercut. Another uppercut, but Wallhead counters with a right hook. Leg kick from Wallhead. The fans are unhappy with the lack of action. Wallhead still coming up short on a lot of his strikes. Ayari comes forward with an uppercut. Wallhead attempted to tie him up but Ayari immediately escaped. Jab from Ayari. His hands are completely down but he still scored with the uppercut. Ayari was taking over, but Wallhead dropped him with a counter left! He jumped on him but Ayari got up quickly. He immediately scored with the uppercut. Long right by Ayari. Wallhead shoots in but there's nothing there. Ayari with a knee and elbow to the body. He's really pressuring. All Ayari here. Wallhead scored with a left though. Big right from Ayari. Huge combination from Wallhead and Ayari goes down! But the horn goes! Wow, what a finish. 10-9 Wallhead, but 29-28 Ayari.

Jessin Ayari defeats Jim Wallhead by split decision (28-29, 29-28, 30-27)

Nicolas Dalby vs. Peter Sobotta

Round 1 - Sobotta was kicking early and often. Hard front kick to the face. Dalby tried to catch it but couldn't tie Sobotta up. Sobotta dropped him with a right hook! He jumped on him and looked for the finish, but Dalby was able to cover up. He's got a big cut under his eye though. Elbows from Sobotta on top. The crowd is chanting Sobotta's name. He's keeping top control, and moved to side. Not much damage from Sobotta now, but he's deftly shutting Dalby down. Big hammerfist and a knee to the body. Sobotta took his back with a body triangle. He secured the choke, but Dalby fought it off. 10-8 Sobotta.

Round 2 - Dalby lands a finger to the eye petty much immediately. Accidental, but Sobotta is pretty messed up. He is able to continue though. Upon the restart, he caught a kick, scored with a huge right, and dragged Dalby down. Beautiful. He's dropping elbows and maintaining control again. He moved to mount. Dalby escaped that, but he continued to work from side control. After a lull in the action, Sobotta responded to a referee call for action with three hard punches. 10-9 Sobotta.

Round 3 - Not much going on for the first minute. Dalby landed a body kick and a right. Sobotta firing the jab. They trade low kicks. Dalby with a nice elbow on the break. Sobotta responded with a right. They exchanged body kicks and clinched up. Beautiful counter left from Sobotta. Hard body kick from Sobotta. Emphatic takedown. Dalby tried to land elbows, but Sobotta tied him up. He moved to side again. Dalby tried to slither out but Sobotta controlled him with the seatbelt, then spun to the back. Scramble, and Dalby's up. Dalby stuffed a takedown, but that's it. 10-9 and 30-26 Sobotta.

Peter Sobotta defeats Nicolas Dalby by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-26)

Ashlee Evans-Smith vs. Veronica Macedo

Round 1 - After a minute of feinting, Macedo scored with a beautiful spinning back kick to the body that made Evans-Smith wince in pain. Evans-Smith tied her up against the cage but didn't score with any offense. Nice side kick and a back kick. Spinning hook kick just missed. Classic TKD here. Evans-Smith clinched up again, looking for a takedown. She finally got it with 90 seconds to go, and immediately took the back with both hooks. Flattened her out. Macedo turned away but is still mounted. Evans-Smith looked for an arm. She had it locked but Macedo escaped. She tried to jump Evans-Smith's back, but couldn't get there. 10-9 Evans-Smith for her ground work.

Round 2 - Nice head kick by Macedo. Evans-Smith back into the clinch. They reversed back and forth for a while before Macedo dropped for a leg lock. Evans-Smith certainly looked like she grabbed the cage to defend. They went back to working in close against the cage. Evans-Smith landed a Rick Story-eque flurry before they separated. Two low kicks from Macedo. Yet another clinch. Macedo rolled for a kneebar, but got stacked up. Evans-Smith scored with a few punches and worked from the top for a  bit. Knees too once Macedo got back to the feet. Hip throw! 10-9 Evans-Smith

Round 3 - .More clinch work. Macedo dropped for a knee bar. Evans-Smith stopped it and punched her in the face. Rinse, repeat from the second round. She's landing huge shots now though, because she trapped Macedo's arm. Huge elbows, over and over. Macedo is blocking them but she's stuck. The ref jumped in and stopped the fight.

Leandro Issa vs. Taylor Lapilus

Round 1 - Issa with lots of pressure against the cage. Lapilus landed some hard elbows. More pressure, but nothing effective. This went on forever, with Leandro looking for takedowns and Lapilus fighting him off. Finally they separated and opened up with strikes. Lapilus with a huge flurry that stunned his opponent. Issa is trying to keep pace with him on the feet, but Lapilus connected with a bunch of lefts. Issa tried for a late takedown but there was nothing there. 10-9 Lapilus.

Round 2 - Lapilus pushed forward but didn't land anything of note. He stuffed a takedown attempt in the middle of the cage, but Issa clinched up. Lapilus reversed and landed a couple of hard knees. Solid right from Lapilus and Issa jogged away. A left now from Lapilus. Both men coming up just short with their hands. Lapilus moved in and scored with a body kick and straight left though. Lapilus caught a kick and cracked his opponent with a left. Issa with a half-hearted shot. Lapilus had a kick caught and Issa dropped for a guillotine. Lapilus popped his head out quickly though and tried to work some GnP. 10-9 Lapilus.

Round 3 - Body kick from Issa. Issa backed Lapilus against the cage again, desperately looking for a takedown. Lapilus deftly fought him off though, and scored with a few elbows. Lapilus finally reverses with three minutes to go and just missed with a spinning elbow. Body kick from Issa. Issa straight ran away from a Lapilus left. Issa digs for the takedown against the cage yet again. Lapilus escaped and chased him down with lefts. Issa finally managed to tie him up and drag him down, but Lapilus was up in just a few seconds. The ref restarted them for no reason at all. Lapilus scored with more lefts on the way to the horn. Great work by Lapilus, 10-9 and 30-27.

Taylor Lapilus defeated Leandro Issa by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Christian Colombo vs. Jarjis Danho

Round 1 - Danho missed with a big right and ties up immediately. He can't get it to the floor though. Columbo with a knee on the break. Danho missed with a monster right. Danho with a short combo and connects with the big right. Columbo took it though, and landed another knee. Columbo with a low kick and another knee. More clinching, and Danho is just missing with his big shots. Columbo gets the Thai clinch and connects with some knees. Columbo backed him off with some punches. Another big pressure combo from Danho. Columbo landed a knee to Danho when he had a hand down, unfortunately. It appeared to open a very big cut on the top of his head. Referee Marc Goddard took a point away. I'll go 9-9.

Round 2 - Danho with a nice shot against the fence. Columbo responds with a knee. Columbo scored with another knee, but Danho caught his leg and took him to the floor. Big punches from Danho as Columbo gets up and stumbles back. Uppercuts from Danho, but yet another knee cracks him! He keeps lowering his head right into the knees. Columbo with a nice right. Both men are starting to slow down. Yet another knee. Danho with a beautiful uppercut. Columbo keeping the pressure on him against the cage. So many knees. Soooo many knees. 10-9 Columbo.

Round 3 - Columbo stuffed an early shot. Columbo with some shots against the cage. Danho reversed though and is still looking for the big shot. Columbo tied him up for more knees, but Danho is doing his best to block them. More knees. A double punch! Danho is wobbly on his feet, but it's from exhaustion. Danho scored with a nice uppercut. Columbo looked for a submission and briefly ended up on his back. Danho seemed energized for a few seconds, and landed some shots on the ground and in the clinch. Columbo stacked him up again though and went back to the knees.  They battled against the cage down the stretch. 10-9 and 29-27 Columbo.

Scott Askham vs. Jack Hermansson

Round 1 - Hermansson opens with some front kicks to the thigh. Leg kicks from Askham. Body kick from Askham that was almost caught. Nice left from Askham, and a body shot. Hermansson keeping up the leg attack. He finally shot in but got stuffed. Hermansson kept him against the cage for a little while, scoring with a knee and uppercut. Uppercut from Askham now. Tons of thigh/oblique kicks from Hermansson, who is also working the outside leg kick. Hard body kicks from both men. Askham working against the cage now with knees. Close round. 10-9 Askham.

Round 2 - Askham opens with a hard body kick, which Hermansson responds to by landing two body kicks, a leg kick, and a jab. Askham with a couple of knees in a brief clinch. More kicks than a Foot Locker. Hermansson with a stinging right hand. Askham circling more now, and he responds with his own left hook. Hermansson looking for the uppercut. Hermansson backs him up and landed a hard flurry. Askham dodged a few of those though. Hermansson with more combos. Askham responds with a knee. Hermansson has his distance and is lighting Askham up. He's game though. Hard elbow from Hermansson in the clinch. Jabs from Hermansson, and a body kick. Askham looks to be gassing out a bit. Hermansson went for a takedown but Askham went for a heel hook at the horn. 10-9 Hermansson.

Round 3 - Hermansson brings the pressure again. Askham scored with a knee, but Hermansson overwhelmed him with punches. They went to the ground again in a neutral position, but Hermansson eventually ended up on top. Askham looked for another leg lock. Hermansson escaped, but Askham went for the other leg. They're back on the feet. This is a pretty good fight. Hermansson with an elbow and two rights that stun Askham a bit against the cage. Knee to the body from the Swede. They exchange knees in the clinch. Hermansson cracked him with a right hook in range. They battled in the clinch, with both men having their moments. They blasted away to the horn. Fun action. 10-9 and 29-28 Hermansson.

Jack Hermansson defeated Scott Askham by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Rustam Khabilov vs. Leandro Silva

Round 1 - Just feints for the first 40 seconds. Finally a body kick from Silva. Leg kick from Khabilov. Some rangy punches from both men that don't connect. The ref finally calls for action two minutes in. Silva presses forward a bit with a left body kick. Khabilov kicks the front leg on both sides. Khabilov misses with a wheel kick. He clinched up against the cage but had a takedown attempt thoroughly stuffed. A second attempt had more promise, but was again fought off. Silva presses forward with a winging left that staggers Khabilov a bit. A body kick sends him further towards the cage and he ends up on his back. Silva goes to mount and lands a couple of punches, but is quickly reversed 10 seconds before the horn. 10-9 Silva.

Round 2 - Khabilov brought the pressure immediately, backing Silva up against the cage with punches. Buscape deftly avoided most of the shots though. The pace slowed again, with the fighters going back to feinting. A short combo from Silva connects, and a jab. They trade leg kicks. Khabilov steps up the pressure now, scoring with a hard right and a body kick. Khabilov looking for a single against the cage, and just when it looked like Silva was fine, Khabilov dragged him to the floor. Silva looked for some spots from guard, but Khabilov just laid on him pretty much. 10-9 Khabilov I guess.

Round 3 - Silva throwing the jab early, looking to maintain the center of the octagon. Buscape with a high kick that's blocked. Khabilov shoots in and pressured hard for the takedown, but Silva showed great balance and stayed on his feet. Khabilov would not be denied - after working for close to a minute, he finally got Silva to the ground - for about eight seconds. They finally stood toe-to-toe in the last minute and threw punches. Silva stuffed some takedown attempts in between flurries. Khabilov connected with an uppercut as Silva shot in for a takedown. Very close round and fight. I'll go Khabilov 10-9 and 29-28.

Rustam Khabilov defeats Leandro Silva by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
