Liam McGeary’s next Bellator MMA light heavyweight title defense will come against former UFC contender Phil Davis.

The Bellator light heavyweight title will be on the line on Friday, November 4th, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. Reigning champion Liam McGeary, whose last title defense was over a year ago, will face former UFC contender Phil Davis in the main event of Bellator 163. Bellator officials announced the news on Friday.

McGeary (11-0) won the title by winning a decision vs. Emanuel Newton in February 2015, then made a first successful defense of his belt by submitting Tito Ortiz in the main event of Bellator: Dynamite 1. Earlier that night, Davis (16-3, 1 NC) won the one-night LHW tournament by finishing both Newton and Francis Carmont. With McGeary on the mend due to injury, Davis fought King Mo Lawal (whom he was supposed to face in the tournament final before Mo withdrew because of injury), and won a unanimous decision this past May.

Also announced for the event is a welterweight bout between Saad Awad and Brennan Ward, who is hoping to rebound from a stunning upset loss to Evangelista Santos in April. Awad lost a decision to Derek Anderson in August, and is competing for the 3rd time in 6 months.

Women’s featherweight contender Marloes Coenen, who suffered a shocking armbar loss to Alexis Dufresne, will make her return to the Bellator cage against undefeated Talita Nogueira.

Paul Daley is also slated to make his return following his defeat to Douglas Lima, but his opponent has to be announced.
