Welterweight action fighter Ben Saunders is back in the UFC once again after picking up a quick win on the regional scene.

When news surfaced back in August that Ben Saunders had been released from the UFC, more than a few hardcore fans were shocked. “Killa B” had started his second UFC stint back in 2014, shortly after losing a Bellator tournament finals match to Douglas Lima. And his return to the then-Zuffa led promotion had been almost entirely successful.

Saunders grabbed the first successful Omoplata in UFC history with a victory over Chris Heatherly, and then followed it up with a quick injury TKO over Joe Riggs, and a fun back and forth contentious win over Kenny Robertson. Then he fought Patrick Cote. Saunders lost to Cote, via TKO in round 2. It was a definitive loss, but with three wins in his favor and an exciting fan friendly style it was a bit stunning to hear he’d been released.

Of course, things are never quite that simple. Saunders himself revealed that he’d let his UFC deal expire after the Cote loss, and with other problems to solve in his personal life, he hadn’t been in a rush to start competing again. That led to the UFC needing him to re-enter the testing pool and sit on the shelf another four months. Instead, Saunders took a fight against UFC vet Jacob Volkmann in a regional show dubbed “Fight Night at the Island.”

Saunders beat Volkmann by armbar at 0:17 seconds of Round 1. But the real victory for him ended up being a new UFC contract. “Killa B” tweeted the news of his re-signing with the UFC on September 19th.

No news yet as to who his debut opponent will be, but stay tuned for more news and updates as they become available.
