Floyd Mayweather shuts down Conor McGregor fight: 'We must move on'

Floyd Mayweather says he is ready to move past the idea of making the Conor McGregor boxing match happen.

In early May, a loud buzz about a possible boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor surfaced, with further reports about the fight happening this year. Specifically, Mayweather had purportedly offered McGregor a sum of $50 million, penning the date for New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas.

McGregor, for his part, has also been playing along with the build-up. Most recently, he dropped subtle hints of his own, stating that his next fight "might not be in the UFC."

"There's a lot of options; some might not be this sport. So, we'll see," McGregor said after his UFC 202 fight against Nate Diaz.

But apparently, "Money Mayweather" has closed the doors on the potential money match-up. Speaking to Fight Hype, the retired undefeated boxer says he is ready to squash the said fight, since they were unsuccessful in closing a deal to make it come to fruition.

"I tried to make the fight happen between me and Conor McGregor," Mayweather said. "We wasn’t able to make the fight happen, so we must move on."
