UFC Hidalgo free fight video: Dustin Poirier stops Akira Corassani

New, comment

Before Dustin Poirier headlines UFC Fight Night 94 against Michael Johnson, watch him put away Akira Corassani, back when Poirier was contending as a featherweight.

Dustin Poirier is not too far away from a lightweight title shot, but "The Diamond" previously spent his time contending at featherweight. In April 2014, he took on Sweden's Akira Corassani in the main card opener for the TUF Nations Finale in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Poirier and Corassani had one hell of an opening round, but Dustin took control int he 2nd and finished off Corassani with a beautiful combination of punches. This is definitely a good fight worth revisiting, so go watch it at the top of the page!

Here's Dallas Winston's PBP for the whole of round 2, which obviously didn't last long.

Round 2 - Poirier covers up on Corassani's first flurry then cracks him with a lead cross and uppercut, then follows up with a series of shots to the body and a left hand high -- Corassani crumples to the canvas.

And here's how the Bloody Elbow community reacted to the finish.

After KO losses to Max Holloway and Sam Sicilia, Corassani retired from the sport at the age of 32. Meanwhile, Poirier would follow the Corassani win by losing to Conor McGregor at UFC 178. Poirier has fought at lightweight ever since that quick defeat.

Poirier vs. Michael Johnson headlines UFC Fight Night 94 in Hidalgo, Texas, on Saturday, September 17th at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT on FS1.
