Dennis Bermudez looked excellent in the co-main event of UFC Salt Lake City tonight, defeating Rony Jason by unanimous decision. It didn't come without a late scare though.
The first two rounds were dictated by Bermudez's wrestling. Jason tried to land some big shots, but more often than not, it ended up putting him on his back. Bermudez also beat up his front leg with kicks, forcing him to change stances later in the fight.
Late in the first, Bermudez opened up a huge cut on Jason's forehead with a nasty elbow from the top. It wasn't enough to stop the fight, but there was blood all over the octagon nonetheless.
The third saw a lot of standup work, until Bermudez shot in against the cage for a takedown. Jason hit a beautiful switch, moved to mount, and almost secured a choke. Bermudez was able to escape and re-take top position though, fending off the scare and cruising to the decision victory.
The judges had it 30-27, 30-26, and 30-27.
