Tyron Woodley does not want to be just another UFC champion. The former Strikeforce title challenger wants to build a name for himself and elevate to stardom alongside the likes of Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz and Ronda Rousey.
Since his first-round demolition of then-champ Robbie Lawler at UFC 201, T-Wood has hogged the headlines with his call out of Nick Diaz and Georges St-Pierre. Many expected Woodley to immediately accept a fight with top welterweight contender Stephen Thompson, but the newly crowned champ wants the big-money fights.
Woodley has been criticised for his antics, and the 34-year-old responded on Instagram on Friday.
"Look who is in the bottom left saying "I Got Next" after @nickdiaz209 beat #PaulDaley I'm not here by accident people. This is by design. Like it or not "I GOT NOW!" You can say what u like but I'm the #Undisputed @UFC Champion Of the World. Deal with it cause I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. Funny how fans know exactly who I should fight, and who deserves the next shot. Not to mention selectively chose when you want this to be an entertainment and sport.
Please put your work address below so I can show up to your jobs and tell you and your boss if you deserve a raise or who deserves it above you. How you should do your job, and repeat verbatim like a sound bite what I hear others say about you. Comical ! Maybe you should focus on your career cause God got me," Woodley said.
Since his call out, Nick Diaz has responded on social media and there appears to be a rivalry forming between the two welterweights. Both men fought under the Strikeforce banner but never got the chance to face off in the cage.
While Thompson is a legitimate contender and top 170-pound talent, the UFC could follow their recent trend of booking money fights and pit Woodley against Diaz or GSP (albeit, GSP would be just as, if not more deserving than Thompson).
