Along with being a UFC fighter, Phillipe Nover is also a fulltime registered nurse in New York City:
"I'm a full time registered nurse; I'm certified in cardiac cath. I work in a pretty intense environment. I assist interventional cardiologists. We put stents in people's hearts. I do that full time and along with that I'm training everyday. Before work, after work, during work I'm always training so I have no excuses. I'm always grinding, man."
Nover's knack for nursing has its perks, such as access to all sorts of medical professionals:
"I got into nursing because a few reasons but I love the human body and learning about the human body; nutrition, healing, anatomy, physiology. Now that I've been a nurse for over 10 years now, I work with some of the best people in the world who know about the human body. I have full access to whatever I need. 'Hey doc, I need your opinion about this. Or, I think my foot might be...' as an MMA fighter I always have tons of stuff bothering me, and every fighter knows that. So at least I definitely have access to all the medical professionals that I need and I can give a good opinion on even my own body when I have symptoms."
Nover thinks his opponent Renan Barao is going to struggle in the featherweight division:
"He's the best in the world at what he does... What's crazy is I'm a fan of his too before this. I even went to watch him live when he fought in Newark... I think his striking is great and he's a super well rounded guy. Super well rounded guy... In his last fight, he shot in a lot. He failed a couple takedowns. I think he might have some issues in the 145 division dealing with a guy like Jeremy Stephens, who I think is not that big of a 45'er. I think I'm bigger than Jeremy. I think Barao is really a 135'er and he just doesn't want to cut the weight, which is fine, so he's going to fight a bigger guy who is longer and taller and stronger and that's going to be me."
