Over the last couple days, the gossip mill has been buzzing with the as-yet-unconfirmed rumor that former UFC middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold is dating pop star UFC fan, Demi Lovato. Reports started emerging late Thursday that the two have been involved for several months, and may have even gotten matching pinky tattoos of smiley faces.
Rockhold has been notably single for years, once telling Bloody Elbow that he “shuts out serious dating” to avoid distractions in his career, stating,
“That's the reason why I've gotten as far as I have. It takes a lot to make it to the top and be the best in this game, and that's why I've shut out the serious dating stuff for the most part. Don't get me wrong, I dabble here and there, have a little fun [laughs], but I'm married to my belts, what can I say?”
There are a few other fighters that follow similar philosophies, so the Three Amigos Podcast started getting opinions from some of them. One of the first on the list is one half of tonight’s women’s strawweight bout, Bec Rawlings. She’s been laser focused on her career since the beginning, but she’s really cranked up the intensity a few notches, and now travels to Southern California for her fight camps to sharpen her skillset at Alliance MMA under the excellent tutelage of Eric del Fiero.
When asked what she thought of Luke’s approach when we spoke to her earlier this week, she gave us her unfiltered take:
“I feel like having relationships outside of MMA isn’t so bad, especially if you’re kind of a playboy like Luke. I feel like the p*ssy kind of gets him in trouble [laughs] and maybe he needs someone to settle him down, so he’s not out there just chasing p*ssy everywhere, but you can’t keep a player out of the game, you know?”
When it comes to her opponent tonight, Paige VanZant,
“She beat Felice Herrig, so that’s one “name” that she has beaten, so I feel like she deserves to be ranked in the Top 15, at Number 10…not so much. I’m pretty sure before she fought Rose, she was at Number 6, which is just a joke. I just feel that she doesn’t deserve that Number 10 ranking, especially when I’m not even ranked yet. I’m always looking to fight people higher than me, so I can steal their ranking and keep climbing that ladder.”
