Demian Maia is sure he knows what Carlos Condit will try to do once they meet in Vancouver, Canada for their main event bout. As he told Combate, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu blackbelt is sure Condit will try his most to keep the fight standing.
"I rewatched all of his last fights. Even the ones he lost, I believe he put up a good fight, and all of those were against champions or former champions. What I know is that he doesn't quit. He's going to fight until the very end. I'll have to know how to control him all the time."
"He's an excellent competitor. I'll try to surprise him with my jiu-jitsu. Everyone knows that. Everyone knows he will try to brawl and doesn't want to go the ground with me. Of course he has some weapons on the ground and I have some standing up, but all you need to do is look at the statistics."
Demian Maia is scheduled to take on Carlos Condit in the main event of UFC on FOX 21, in Vancouver, Canada, on August 27. In the co-main event, Charles Oliveira will welcome former lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis, into the featherweight division.
