Donald Cerrone signs eight-fight contract extension with UFC

Unlike Rory MacDonald, Donald Cerrone will be sticking around the UFC for years to come.

Donald Cerrone is already among the leaders for most fights and most wins in the UFC, it seems certain he'll move up those lists even more now that he has signed a new deal. Coming off a big win over Rick Story at UFC 202, Cerrone mentioned that he had one fight left on his deal, but was very optimistic about a new contract with the promotion.

Today, MMA Junkie confirmed with the UFC that he has signed on for eight more fights.

Cerrone (31-7, 1 NC, 18-4 UFC) had a long lightweight career with the promotion, putting together an eight-fight win streak to earn a title shot late last year. Unfortunately he was finished early in that fight by Rafael dos Anjos, and decided to move to welterweight after that.

He has been hugely successful at 170 so far, picking up three straight wins inside the distance. His TKO win over Story moved him up to number seven in the welterweight rankings.

His next bout hasn't been confirmed as of yet, but you can bet he'll be back in the octagon before the end of 2016. Maybe more than once.
