Bellator 160's Saad Awad: Anderson's style will be 'his worst enemy'

Bloody Elbow's Eddie Mercado spoke with Bellator160 lightweight Saad Awad ahead of his upcoming match with the 13-2 Derek Anderson on August 26, 2016.

Bellator 160 is set to go down this Friday from the Honda Center in Los Angeles, California. The co-main event of the night will be a lightweight tilt between Saad Awad and Derek Anderson. Bloody Elbow's Eddie Mercado caught up with Saad Awad, fresh off of a first round TKO of Cyborg Santos at Bellator 154, to discuss his previous, upcoming, and future bouts.

Interview: Saad Awad vs. Derek Anderson Bellator 160 **AUDIO ONLY**

Saad Awad spoke on his cake walk of a weight cut in his previous welterweight bout with Evangelista Cyborg Santos:

"I liked it. I didn't have to cut weight so I didn't have to worry about making weight. That's usually that's half of the fight right there, the weight cut. So I didn't have to worry about that. I think I cut a couple of pounds the day of but nothing compared to what I usually cut coming in to the fight. So that was cool and I enjoyed it, man. I enjoyed it."

Might we see Awad fight again at welterweight in his future?

"Yea, I already told them. I said if something comes up and it made sense and I was ready to fight I'll jump in and do it again"

Saad Awad gave his thoughts on his past opponent Cyborg's fractured skull sustained in a bout with Michael Page at Bellator 158:

"That was scary. You know what I mean. It was scary. I think it was probably the worst injury that we've seen in MMA. So it was just scary because I didn't know, or I don't think anybody knew what was going to happen. But thank God things went good and he's better now."

The bulk of Awad's training camp has been spent at Millenia MMA:

"I always do my camps at Millenia. I'm doing cross training a little bit training with other people but mainly just Millenia. My main teammates Georgi [Karakhanyan], Lorenz [Larkin], and Sean Strickland. I'll probably get it in again this week with him."

Can Derek Anderson expect a long night? Not according to Awad:

"I see it being a short night for him. I think his style is going to be his worst enemy in this fight. He likes to come straight and usually guys that come straight in to me don't last too long so I think it's going to be a short night for him."

After his match with Anderson, what would be next for Saad Awad?

"I would like to jump in there and fight for a title but I mean who knows. Bellator is throwing all of these crazy fights together so who knows what will happen. Maybe I'll get one of those crazy fights or maybe I'll get a title fight. I'd like a title fight or give me one of those guys that are there, the number two, or three guy."
