Amir Khan is still angling for a fight with Conor McGregor. The British boxer has been making headlines recently by saying he'd come to the UFC to fight the featherweight champion, and he'd only need a year of training to do it (he later shortened that to six months). After McGregor defeated Nate Diaz in a classic at UFC 202, Khan took to social media to further his case with Conor:
Amazing fight @TheNotoriousMMA Showed true heart/balls and guts. Well done, have a good rest. See you soon. Call me, we need to talk
— Amir Khan (@amirkingkhan) August 21, 2016
McGregor fueled some of the fire himself by stating that he has a lot of options going forward, and "some might not be in this sport." That led many to believe he was talking about a fight with Floyd Mayweather, but it could conceivably involve something in regards to Khan outside the UFC as well. Or it could mean nothing.
Khan will undoubtedly continue working for this, since there's not a lot of huge-money bouts left for him in boxing right now after Canelo Alvarez knocked him out in May.
Meanwhile, we'll wait to see what McGregor actually does. After his foot heals up, of course.
