Joshua Dahl-USA TODAY Sports

The UFC 202 FS1 prelims weren't as thrilling as the Fight Pass bouts. In fact, one of the fights wasn't really interesting viewing at all. At the feature spot was bantamweight prospect Cody Garbrandt, looking to notch another KO win, as he took on former WEC title challenger Takeya Mizugaki. Here's how the fights played out.

Cody Garbrandt def. Takeya Mizugaki via TKO (punches) at :48 of round 1 - Bantamweights

Early kick by Garbrandt. Right hand by Garbrandt is countered by a leg kick by Mizugaki. Fast hands by Garbrandt who traded with Mizugaki and tagged him. Down went Mizugaki on a right hand. Back up and down again. Mizugaki was all over the place and Garbrandt put him away inside 50 seconds. Violent, quick, and emphatic.

Raquel Pennington def. Elizabeth Phillips via unanimous decision (30-27 x3) - Women's Bantamweights

Not much happening in the first 90 seconds other than a leg kick by Phillips and a jab by Pennington. A clinch battle ensued and Pennington went to the body with her knees. It was a general stalemate as far as either of them getting a takedown. More knees to the body by Pennington on the inside. They finally separated after 3+ minutes. Another hard body shot by Pennington who then took Phillips down, even after Phillips grabbed the fence. Phillips used the headlock to stand back up and she threatened briefly with a standing guillotine, but Pennington shucked it off.

Phillips got a single leg takedown with Pennington looking for the arm-in guillotine. It didn't come but it didn't cost her, as she escaped to the feet. Pennington controlled Phillips with the front head lock. Elizabeth pushed forward with an unsuccessful takedown attempt. Another knee to the body and some good clinch striking by Pennington. Phillips had her back taken and summarily taken down. Pennington with short elbows to end the 2nd.

Round 3 opened up with a right hand by Pennington, a knee to the body, and more clinching. Pennington changed levels and got the takedown. Pennington almost had full back mount on Phillips but only had one hook in. Raquel got the 2nd hook in as Phillips bravely tried to fight it off. Phillips scrambled and ended up mounted. Pennington surprisingly trolled for an arm triangle from the bottom. Phillips got some ground-and-pound in but needed something big to win the fight. Back up to their feet they went, with Pennington clinch-fighting her way to a decision victory.

Artem Lobov def. Chris Avila via unanimous decision (30-27 x3) - Featherweights

Lobov took the initiative in the opening minute, with Avila fighting with his back close to the cage and Lobov going for big kicks and single power punches. Lobov drilled Avila with hard kicks to Avila's lead leg. Close to zero offense in the first round by the man from Nate Diaz's camp. Avila ate some more left hands and was unable to get a takedown.

Action was sparse in round 2, although Avila actually threw some strikes for a change. It was still a clear Lobov round with his leg kicks and power punches. A good right hand froze Avila up with 1:30 left in the 2nd. Lobov literally slapped Avila. Another huge leg kick lifted Avila's left leg up.

More unchecked leg kicks by Lobov in round 3. Lobov was struck and bleeding ... via an accidental headbutt, which halted the fight. The fight resumed and the recurring theme of not much happening continued. At least nothing sustained. Big knee by Lobov, comfortably up two rounds already. Lobov threw a kick and slipped. Avila tried to capitalize and had to fend off a heel hook before they returned to their feet. Avila fought with pretty much no urgency. McGregor's teammate beats Diaz's teammate.

Cortney Casey def. Randa Markos via submission (armbar) at 4:34 of round 1 - Women's Strawweights

There wasn't much to separate the two in the striking, although Casey muscled her opponent to the ground and then kneed her to the body. A nice takedown by Markos put Casey in a bad spot, as her head was prone to be punched in the headlock. However, Casey scrambled and took Markos' back and landed big ground-and-pound. As Markos tried to escape to her feet, Casey muscled her to the ground again and poured on the pressure. Markos wound up on top as Casey sought control of Randa's arm. Casey went for the armbar and locked it up. Markos verbally submitted and Casey has got her 2nd win in just over a month.
