KSW, Poland’s premier mixed martial arts promotion, announced on Monday afternoon that controversial UFC veteran Rousimar Palhares will headline their upcoming show in October.
According to the press release, the Brazilian submission specialist infamously known for malicious behaviour and unsportsmanlike conduct during fights, will meet former middleweight champion Michal Materla.
Palhares, who won the WSOF middleweight title against Steve Carl and defended it against Jon Fitch and Jake Shields, was stripped of the title and suspended for two years by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for holding onto submissions for too long. Barred from competition in North America, Palhares debuted in Venator FC in May and suffered a KO loss to relative unknown Emil Weber Meek.
This marks Palhares’ second fight outside of the United States since his suspension and is a significant opportunity to edge closer to championship gold. The headliner will serve as a potential title eliminator bout to determine the next challenger for Mamed Khalidov. Materla, who defeated KSW veteran Antoni Chmielewski in the opening round of KSW 35, is looking to reclaim the title he lost at KSW 34.
The evening’s co-main event will feature exciting 205-pound fighter Tomasz Narkun as he defend his KSW light heavyweight title for the second time against the former champion Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou. KSW lightweight champion Mateusz Gamrot will also be featured on card.
KSW 36 takes place on October 1st in Zielona Góra.
