Ahead of the highly anticipated welterweight rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor at UFC 202, the UFC have released a free video of the fight between Diaz and Michael Johnson at UFC on FOX 17.
Diaz entered the bout as an underdog and was expected to lose to Johnson due to the uncertainty of his UFC career and inactivity in recent years. Johnson, a rising lightweight prospect who looked to be finally reaching his potential, was predicted to out manoeuvre Diaz with his footwork and speed. Diaz, however, seemed reinvigorated after taking a year away from the sport.
The proud Stockton fighter flustered Johnson with a series of 1-2 combinations and cruised to a unanimous decision victory. Following the fight, Diaz called out Conor McGregor in an expletive-laden post-fight interview and was selected to face the Irishman at UFC 196.
Due to the last minute circumstances -- Rafael dos Anjos was McGregor's original opponent but pulled out with a broken foot -- the fight was contested at welterweight and Diaz wasn't fully prepared. Despite this, the Cesar Gracie Jiu Jitsu black belt weathered McGregor's storm and ended up tapping out 'The Notorious' in the second round.
The rematch will headline UFC 202, which also features a pivotal light heavyweight clash between Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira in the co-main event. The PPV takes place next week, August 20, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
