All of the attention will be on Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor on Saturday, August 20th, but there's a really terrific fight in the co-main event featuring light heavyweight stalwarts Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira. The winner of that one figures to face Daniel Cormier next, with Rumble in line for a potential rematch.
Today's free fight video post is all about the Brazilian, who headlined an August 8th, 2015 UFC Fight Night card in Nashville, Tennessee, home to former Tennessee college football player Ovince Saint Preux. Teixeira had lost back-to-back fights to Jon Jones and Phil Davis, while OSP had just dismantled Patrick Cummins and Mauricio Rua in his previous two bouts.
The difference maker in this one was Glover's vastly superior ground game, particularly his BJJ. Saint Preux really had problems with Glover's offense from top position, and while OSP valiantly escaped back to his feet a couple of times, Teixeira was just too much for Saint Preux. Glover was able to get yet another takedown and eventually achieve mount, then attack for the fight-ending RNC. OSP didn't tap, instead heading straight into unconsciousness. You can watch the full fight video at the top of the page.
Here's Kid Nate's play-by-play of round 3:
Teixeira coming forward. OSP shoots. Nothing doing. Teixeira coming forward. Teixeira corners OSP and fires with punches. OSP is covering up. Circles out. OSP shoots. Gets stuffed. Teixeira takes his back standing. Picks OSP up and slams him down. Teixeira in half guard. Firing away from the top. Ref warns someone about fingers in the eyes. I think it was Teixeira getting warned. Teixeira chipping away. Teixeira gets mount. OSP rolls over. Teixeira going for the choke. He has the arm under the chin. It's deep! OSP passes out. It's over!
Official result: Glover Teixeira def. Ovince Saint Preux via technical submission (rear naked choke) at 3:10 of Rd 3.
