Gegard Mousasi just became the first person inside the UFC to TKO Thiago Santos, and he did it in expedient fashion, at 4:32 of Round 1 of theUFC 200 card. Santos came in as a late opponent change when Derek Brunson had to pull out of the fight with eye issues resulting from a previous Lasik surgery.
Mousasi almost had a third opponent change for tonight when he bacame one of three men in the running to face Daniel Cormier when Jon Jones was forced off the card due to a USADA violation. He spoke to Submission Radio about an hour ago following his big win, where he detailed just how close he was to getting the shot at Cormier.
"Well, they said first that I got the fight, so we are very happy, because we are going to eat spaghetti, we don't need to cut weight, and then called and said, "Maybe." Obviously, I had to focus on my own previous fight."
When asked how he feels the Cormier/Silva fight will go down, he gave his prediction of the fight.
"Daniel Cormier is a smart fighter. He will put the pace and go forward all the time. He only needs one clinch. I feel like when there's a wrestler, and there's 5 or 10 pounds weight difference, the guy that's got the 5-10 pound difference is gonna win. DC is a world class wrestler, and he has 20 pounds over Anderson, so I think it's gonna be an easy fight for him."
