If life is like a box of chocolates, Jacare keeps getting those gross fruit filled ones that nobody likes. The current middleweight top contender has won 9 of his last 10 fights, with his only loss coming in a close decision over the shortly thereafter suspended Yoel Romero. And, with other top contenders Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold both coming off decisive losses in their last fights, it seemed that circumstances were just right to give Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza his UFC middleweight title shot...
Or not.
Jacare recently took to Facebook with a (perhaps slightly dated) callout of the current middleweight title holder, Michael Bisping.
The UFC just announced that Bisping’s first title defense would be against the aging, and seemingly far from contention, Dan Henderson. Bisping and Henderson have an old score to settle after Henderson scored a career highlight KO win over the Brit back at UFC 100 in 2009, but that rational doesn’t exactly seem to be sitting well with the fighters closer to the belt, and especially not with Jacare.
However, the Hendo fight seems to be a loss Bisping has always wanted back, and now with a belt around his waist, he’s in position to get the bookings he wants. The bout will very likely headline a still unscheduled UFC event in Manchester in October of 2016. And until that goes down, Jacare’s going to have to be content making 90’s movie memes on the sidelines.
