Freddie Roach: Michael Bisping 'said no' to UFC fight with Georges St-Pierre

New, comments

Boxing trainer Freddie Roach claims Michael Bisping declined a fight with Georges St-Pierre.

Georges St-Pierre is looking to return to active mixed martial arts competition after a three-year hiatus, and recently expressed interest in a super-fight with Michael Bisping. But according to legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach, who has been working with St-Pierre recently, the new middleweight champ declined the match up.

"Yeah, I do like that fight, but Bisping said no. I know that that fight's not going to happen," Roach told Fight Hub TV.

St-Pierre's negotiations with UFC brass haven't come to a halt, however, despite the French-Canadian's recent comments on fighter pay.

"He's negotiating with the -- well, he was negotiating with the Fertitta brothers," Roach explained. "But I heard a rumor the company just got sold and bought by Ari Emanuel or someone. Maybe more than one person is involved is what I heard, but I don't know exactly who owns UFC right now. He'll negotiate with somebody, I'm sure."

"He looked really good in training. He did really well. But the thing is, there are no names out there yet. We haven't picked anyone or we don't have a favorite at this point."

Despite St-Pierre's recent interest in a return and recent mock training camp, UFC president Dana White is still confident St-Pierre will never step into the Octagon to fight again.
