It looks like Brock Lesnar could be making a return to mixed martial arts in the near future.
According to a report from MMAFighting.com on Saturday evening, the former UFC heavyweight champion is in "serious talks" with the UFC regarding returning to competition at next month's UFC 200. The papers aren't signed at this time, but a deal is reportedly on its way to being finalized.
It is unknown at this time who would serve as Lesnar's opponent next month if a new UFC contract is indeed finalized.
A return for Lesnar has been discussed ever since he left the UFC in 2009, but never was it finalized. In late 2014, WWE officials reportedly made an assumption he would re-sign with the UFC, but a few months later, Lesnar confirmed a new deal with the WWE, stating his "legacy in the Octagon is over."
Lesnar hasn't competed in professional MMA since a first-round TKO loss to current top contender Alistair Overeem in December 2011. He retired after that loss and returned to pro-wrestling in WWE, where is the former world heavyweight champion.
Lesnar is widely considered one of the biggest draws in the sport's history. He won the belt with a finish win over Randy Couture in 2008, and lost the title to Cain Velasquez in 2010. The former titleholder headlined UFC 100 against Frank Mir in summer 2009. UFC 100 still holds the pay-per-view record with 1.6 million buys. Lesnar left the organization with a 5-3 record.
UFC 200 takes place live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 9. In the main event, Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones unify the light heavyweight championship in a highly anticipated rematch.
