Is it time for Max Holloway to get his title shot? The 24-year-old's UFC 199 main card performance vs. Ricardo Lamas may have sealed it after his entertaining victory (his 9th straight win overall) in Inglewood, California. Here's a summary of how this very exciting fight played out.

Early leg kick for Lamas and then a body kick. Followed by another leg kick. Holloway opened up with a couple of nice shots with his combination punching. A good uppercut and a right hand over the top by Holloway followed by a straight left and a head kick. Ricardo had success with his kicks but was otherwise getting pieced up by Holloway's boxing. Massive swarm of punches and kicks and knees hurt Lamas but he never went down. Punishing body shot by Holloway. Lamas went for a takedown and it backfired, as Holloway sprawled on top and pried his leg free. Lamas attacked with a single leg with just over a minute to go in the opening round but Holloway defended nicely. Wheel kick by Holloway slapped Lamas across the face, but Lamas was tough and saw out the round.

Lamas opened up the 2nd with a kick-heavy attack, but Holloway was privy to it. Ricardo landed an uppercut in the clinch 1 minute into the round. Holloway pressured Lamas and exchanged with "The Bully." Lamas was more active with his kicks, which caused some swelling on Holloway's left leg. Holloway hurt Lamas with a big right hand and took Ricardo's big punches in return. Lamas did a terrific job of fighting back even as Holloway had him hurt. Lamas dove for a takedown and Holloway countered with a north-south choke. Holloway couldn't get it and then scrambled to top position where he briefly threatened with a guillotine choke. Back to their feet they went, where Holloway immediately blasted Lamas with a kick to the body. Another single by Lamas was stuffed and Holloway again went for a choke. He took Lamas' back and went for a rear-naked choke. Lamas turned his face away and survived that. Holloway punched Lamas some more from back mount with 10 seconds left and Lamas got elbowed to end the round.

A desperate Lamas threw a capoeira kick, which didn't connect anything but air. Another combination by Holloway to the body and to the head. Stinging right hand by the Hawaiian pushing forward. Again he cracked Lamas with a left from the southpaw stance. Ricardo returned fire with a left hand over the top and an outside leg kick. Whereas Lamas' best work came with single power strikes, Holloway's output proved to be more effective and more punishing. Head kick by Lamas was partially blocked by Holloway, who answered back with 3 punches of his own. Lamas again couldn't get the takedown. The two men exchanged right hands towards the final minute of the 3rd. Another left tagged Lamas and they went swinging away. Lamas went for another takedown attempt and Holloway denied him again. Uppercut and a right hand by Holloway in the closing seconds. A very entertaining fight ended with both men going absolutely bonkers throwing bombs at each other. What a fight, what a showing by Holloway.
