A new welterweight matchup is apparently on tap for UFC 202. Combate reports that Neil Magny will fight Dong Hyun Kim on the August 20th pay-per-view at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC officials have now announced the booking themselves.
Magny (18-4) has won 10 of his last 11, with only Demian Maia able to defeat him over the past 3 years. The TUF 16 semifinalist rallied from two knockdowns against Hector Lombard to stop the Cuban in round 3 -- and really should've been stopped by the ref in round 2 -- of their UFC Brisbane encounter in March. Magny also holds a short-notice split decision over Kelvin Gastelum, and is currently #7 in the UFC's welterweight rankings.
Kim (21-3-1, 1 NC) hasn't fought since a 1st round TKO over Dominic Waters at UFC Seoul last November. "Stun Gun" had previously submitted Josh Burkman at UFC 187 in May, which was a bounce back performance after he was knocked out by Tyron Woodley in August 2014. The South Korean has won 6 of his last 7, with his spinning back elbow KO of John Hathaway standing above all as his most memorable win. He's tied with Rick Story for #9 in the welterweight top 15.
UFC 202 is headlined by a welterweight rematch between featherweight champion Conor McGregor and lightweight contender Nate Diaz. The co-main event will be between light heavyweights Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira.
