Bellator MMA

Bellator 157: Dynamite 2 traveled to the Gateway of the West as the vacant lightweight title was up for grabs. The Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri also welcomed in newly signed free agent Matt Mitrione to the Bellator brand. Here are the results and highlights from the evening:

Main Card results:

Michael Chandler def. Patricky Freire via KO at 2:14 of round 1- Lightweight Title

A lot of measuring to start the bout from both competitors... and then Michael Chandler uncorked a laser right hand to achieve the one punch KO. Michael Chandler is the new Bellator lightweight champion. Watch Chandler put Pitbull to sleep:

Ilima Macfarlane def. Rebecca Ruth via Submission (RNC) at 3:00 of round 2- Flyweight

Ilima-Lei Macfarlane came out, closed the distance, and kept it closed. Rebecca Ruth manage to fend off multiple choke attempts but ultimately fell victim to a standing Rear-Naked-Choke.

Matt Mitrione def. Carl Seumanutafa via KO (Punches) at 3:22 of round 1- Heavyweight

Welcome to Bellator Matt Mitrione! Seumanutafa dropped Mitrione right off the bat with a monstrous right hand yet failed to instantly follow up as referee Big John McCarthy was not ready to call it. The late pounce gave Mitrione the time needed to clear the cobwebs and find the top position. A nuke of a right hand from the standing Mitrione shut out the lights of the grounded Seumanutafa.

Preliminary bouts:

Justin Lawrence def. Isao Kobayashi via KO at 2:11 in round 2- Featherweight

Rashard Lovelace def. Garrett Mueller via TKO (Leg Injury) at 5:00 of round 2

Guilherme Vasconcelos def. Jordan Dowdy via Submission (RNC) at 4:59 of round 1

Joaquin Buckley def. Chris Heatherly via KO (Knee) at 4:14 of round 2

Chel Erwin-Davis def. Kevin Engel via Submission (RNC) at 1:19 of round 2
