Francisco Trinaldo vs. Paul Felder slated for UFC event in Brazil

A lightweight matchup between #15 ranked Francisco Trinaldo and Paul Felder is targeted for the UFC's return to Brazil in September.

Following a huge stadium show in Curitiba on May 14th, the UFC's next appearance in Brazil will be in late September. MMA Fighting reported earlier this week that one matchup that is expected to happen is a lightweight bout between Francisco Trinaldo and Paul Felder.

Trinaldo (20-4) is coming off a completely bonkers win against Yancy Medeiros at the aforementioned UFC 198. The 37-year-old had Medeiros nearly knocked out on multiple occasions, and Medeiros almost had him stopped at the end of the 2nd round. Miraculously, it went the distance and Trinaldo picked up his 6th consecutive win. The TUF Brazil 1 alum's winning streak, which also includes a knockout over Chad Laprise and a unanimous decision over Ross Pearson, has netted him a well-deserved spot in the UFC's lightweight rankings, where he's #15.

Felder (12-2) defeated Josh Burkman by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night: Almeida vs Garbrandt in May. "The Irish Dragon" had started his career 10-0, most notably stopping Danny Castillo with a spinning backfist, but consecutive losses to Edson Barboza and Ross Pearson halted his rise towards the top of the division. So far, he's 2-0 in 2016, with a dramatic 3rd round rear-naked choke vs. Daron Cruickshank serving as his other victory this year.

The UFC's current lineup of events in September consists of UFC Fight Night: Arlovski vs. Barnett in Hamburg, Germany on the 3rd, followed by UFC 202: Miocic vs. Overeem in Cleveland, Ohio on the 10th. No location or venue has been revealed yet for this Brazilian UFC card.
