Donald Cerrone looked amazing in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 89. Despite taking on a man that was much bigger than him, he dominated Patrick Cote with his striking and grappling, putting him on the mat with his wrestling and his fists. Three knockdowns eventually led to a TKO finish at 2:35 of the third round.
Cerrone's wrestling was on point in the first round. He ducked under two big Cote strikes and took him down, looking to grapple on the floor. He did get his back late and threatened his bigger opponent with a choke, but wasn't able to secure it.
The second was pretty much all Cerrone. He opened up with leg kicks and had Cote hobbling. Then he busted his nose open with a few jabs and a solid left hook. He finally dropped him, but couldn't get the finish on the ground so he let him up. Cote seemed fired up after that, looking to come back and brawl. But he just got lit up some more.
Cerrone started the third with another knockdown. Cote got back up and had to change stances due to the stream of leg kicks he was eating. He was still there though, looking to catch Cerrone. Unfortunately for him though, he ate yet another left hook that sent him back to the mat. Finally Cerrone jumped on him and finished him.
Donald Cerrone defeated Patrick Cote by TKO (strikes), 2:35 of round 3
