Anthony Pettis will look for redemption in a different weight class. Fox Sports broke out the news that “Showtime” will make his featherweight debut in August and Brazilian jiu-jitsu blackbelt, Charles Oliveira will be the one to welcome him into the new division.
After three losses in a row to the likes of Rafael dos Anjos, Eddie Alvarez and Edson Barboza, Pettis (18-5) hasn’t won a fight since his submission win over Gilbert Melendez back at UFC 181 in December 2014. The victory was the last one in Anthony’s five-fight winning streak that included wins over Jeremy Stephens, Joe Lauzon, Donald Cerrone and Benson Henderson, as well.
Although Oliveira (21-5 (1)) recently called out Brian Ortega, Cub Swanson and Max Holloway, a former champion such as Anthony Pettis would be a nice win to follow his submission win against Myles Jury in December 2015. In his most recent outings, Oliveira also gathered wins over Nik Lentz, Jeremy Stephens, Hatsu Hioki and Andy Ogle. His sole loss, a freak neck injury against Max Holloway, came in August 2015.
Anthony Pettis is scheduled to meet Charles Oliveira at a Fight Night show in Vancouver, Canada, on August 27. The main event for the show has not been announced as of yet.
