The UFC Fight Night: Arlovski vs. Overeem main event was a heavyweight tilt between JacksonWink MMA teammates Alistair Overeem and Andrei Arlovski. While they train at the same camp, they're anything but friends, hence the matchmaking. Overeem came into this bout on the cusp of a title shot, while Arlovski had just been KO'd by next week's title challenger.
Arlovski came out fast and furious, throwing big combinations with punches and knees while Overeem covered up and absorbed them against the fence. Overeem wasn't wobbled and the fight continued and he landed an Uberknee to Arlovski's body before they clinched. Alistair scored with two more knees upstsairs as they separated. Another knee in the clinch by Overeem caught Andrei's attention. Body kick by Overeem got the crowd excited. Overeem fired a leg kick to Arlovski's lead leg. In the clinch they went and Overeem took Arlovski down to the mat and landed some ground-and-pound to end the round.
In the 2nd round, Overeem attacked with a combination punctuated with a right hand over the top. Arlovski answered back but Overeem was in control. A jumping crane kick followed by a big left hand dropped Arlovski. Massive ground-and-pound ended it seconds later. The crowd erupted in delight.
