Jon Jones thanks Conor McGregor for UFC 200 'red panty night'

New, comments

Jon Jones may have ended up stuck doing commercials for 10 hours this week, but it sounds like he's not regretting it at all.

At this point, the story is pretty well established. Conor McGregor wanted fewer PR duties surrounding his UFC 200 rematch with Nate Diaz, considering that he had to fly from Europe to do them, and the UFC wouldn't budge. Conor bailed and the UFC pulled the plug on the fight.

With UFC 200 setting out to be one of the UFC's all-time marquee PPV events, they needed a new massive headline fight to draw in the fans they'd planned on getting with Mcgregor/Diaz 2. Enter Jon Jones, fresh off a win over Ovince St. Preux and Daniel Cormier, recovering from a recent leg injury. Jones and Cormier first fought in January of 2015, and were set for a rematch on April 23rd of this year, however Cormier's injury scrapped that fight.

Now that McGregor is off UFC 200, however, the DC vs. Jones 2 fight is back on. This time around, Jones is the title challenger and Cormier is the champion. Jones recently posted a video on Instagram of himself doing some work as part of a 10-hour commercial shoot to promote UFC 200. If 10-hours seems a little extreme, it doesn't seem to be bothering Jones at all, who thanked McGregor for dropping out of the card and giving Jones his own personal "red panty night."

UFC 200 goes down July 9th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jones and Cormier will fight for the unified light heavyweight title as one of three title fights on the card. Stay tuned to Bloody Elbow for more news and updates.
