As Canelo Alvarez prepares to take on Amir Khan this Saturday night live on HBO PPV, many boxing fans and analysts have their eyes on the future and a much discussed Canelo vs. Gennady Golovkin fight. Canelo vs. GGG has been in talks for a few months now, but it seems that weight will be a possible stumbling block for the fight, with Canelo's team talking about a Catchweight, and Golovkin's demanding the Middleweight limit of 160 pounds.
HBO Boxing analyst Harold Lederman spoke to Fight Hub TV in advance of Canelo vs. Khan, and had some tough words for Canelo concerning the GGG fight:
I just don't understand Canelo. He acts as though he wants to get out of the fight. He could make a huge payday. Asking for catchweight? Golovkin doesn't have to come in below 160, that's ridiculous, he's a Middleweight. He's the top rated contender and they should fight for the Middleweight title at 160. I think Canelo's making excuses so he doesn't have to fight.
As for what he sees in the fight should it happen, Lederman sees it like this:
Canelo's a star in the making if not a star already, and Golovkin's a huge star, so it's gotta be a great fight, it really does.
