UFC 198 video recap: Cris Cyborg starches Leslie Smith in debut

Check out BloodyElbow.com's recap of the UFC 198 main card bout between Cris Cyborg and Leslie Smith from Curitiba, Brazil on Saturday evening.

Cris Cyborg is here.

The Invicta FC featherweight champion made her highly anticipated UFC debut against Leslie Smith on the main card of UFC 198 Saturday night in her hometown of Curitiba, Brazil. Cyborg continued her impressive winning streak with a first-round mauling of Smith.

What was the highlight of the fight?

Well, Cyborg's barrage of punches that led to the 1:21, round one stoppage has to be up there in the list of highlights of this fight. Perhaps the only fight, considering it didn't even make it to the halfway point of the opening round? I'd say so. Cyborg is such a crisp striker -- she landed some straight bombs which rocked and dropped Smith, and followed up with nasty ground-and-pound to get the job done.

Where do these two go from here?

Well, this is a tough one for Cyborg. There are many options for the Brazilian, including going back-and-forth between Invicta FC to defend her featherweight title and the UFC for catchweight outings. That's probably the most likely option for the near future. But sooner than later, I see Cyborg vacating her Invicta FC title and fighting for the UFC full-time. The only issue with that is weight, of course. UFC matchmakers obviously want her to fight for the bantamweight belt, but can she make the 135-pound limit? Unlikely. So for now, fights in both organizations. And over time, trying to get to 135-pounds. That's what's next for Cyborg.

As for Smith, there's no shame in losing to Cyborg. None at all. She'll get another fight in the UFC, without question, against a mid-tier fighter that she can probably beat. Smith is a good fighter, just not good enough to beat top talent like Cyborg.

Watch now, later, or never?

Uhh ... now.
