The UFC 198 co-main event featured a long-awaited middleweight match-up that pitted two Brazilians in front of 45,000 of their fellow countrymen.
Check out the play-by-play below:
R1: Souza presses forward in a low stance, swinging a low kick and landing it. Souza shoots a double with no set up and Belfort easily defends with an under-hook, then he circles off the fence with wrist control and separates. Souza shoots a low single and finishes it with an ankle pick, landing in Belfort's half guard. Cross-face elbows for Souza as he looks for a mount pass. Souza locks down in half guard and postures up with a vicious succession of right hands, and Belfort's face is covered with blood shortly after.
The ref intervenes to have the doctor check Belfort, and they're restarted on the ground after he's cleared. Souza threatens with another mount pass, then goes for an armbar as Belfort rolls out to escape, but it's too lose. Souza stays attached, keeping Belfort on the fence and then hitting a double leg. Belfort glances with an up-kick before Souza steps over his legs and dings him with punches. Souza hops into full mount and pounds away until the ref waves the fight off.
