Bellator 154 results: Phil Davis trumps King Mo by unanimous decision

The Viacom promotion held Bellator 154 from the SAP Center in San Jose, California. The main event provided fans with the Bellator 142 tournament finale that never was; King Mo Muhammed Lawal took on Mr. Wonderful Phil Davis. Here are the results from the evening:

Phil Davis def. Muhammed Lawal via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)

The first round was predominantly a kickboxing bout with small gloves however neither competitor inflicted any significant damage. King Mo started the second stanza by securing brief takedown. The action stalled as King Mo was hit below the belt and as the match resumed it returned to the low impact kickboxing match. Phil Davis started using his kicks while Lawal looked for the big shot. The most significant moment of the match came as Phil Davis landed a huge punch in round 3 that wobbled King Mo. Mr. Wonderful immediately followed up with an upper cut and double leg to boot. Davis landed some ground strikes and locked up a Kimora but Lawal scrambled out and ended up in top position. King Mo decided to stand up as time wound down and the fate of both fighters was in the hands of the judges.

The judges awarded the unanimous decision victory to Phil Davis; 2 of the judges gave all 3 rounds to Mr. Wonderful, scoring the bout 30-27, and 1 judge scored the match 29-29. With the victory, Phil Davis now moves on to fight for the title and face the Bellator light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary.

Saad Awad def. Evangelista 'Cyborg' Santos via TKO (punches) in 4:31 of round 1- Welterweights

Cyborg Santos and Saad Awad clinched up early which led to a Santos takedown. Both guys engaged in a game of footsie that ended up with Awad postured up raining down unanswered ground and pound. Cyborg remained committed to the leg lock and Awad continued to land strikes until the referee stopped him.

Adam Piccolotti def. Ray Wood via Submission (rear naked choke) at 3:17 in round 1- Lightweights

Ray Wood landed an early head kick that ultimately led to a takedown by Piccolotti. Wood managed to get to his feet but exposed his back in the process. Adam Piccolotti sunk in a standing rear naked choke and Wood was forced to fall to the ground and submit to the hold.

Andre Fialho def. Rick Reger via KO (punch) at 2:11 of round 1- Lightweights

Fialho started out of the gate throwing heavy bombs at Reger. Even the jab of Fialho was hurting his opposition. A duo of left hooks followed by a team of right hands sent Reger to the canvas where the unconscious man was struck by an academic strike. This was an absolute wash.
