"I don't know why people would even think that this fight should be made," Brown said of a potential boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor.

Count Matt Brown among those not entertained by the idea of a boxing mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor.

Rumors of the bout surfaced earlier this month when British newspaper The Sun reported that both fighters were in negotations and close to finalizing a deal.

The reports have been largely dismissed, but with 'The Notorious' and 'The Best Ever' marketing the fight on social media and in interviews, fans are becoming increasingly open to the idea.

Brown, who will take on Demian Maia later tonight at UFC 198, ridiculed the potential fight on Sirius XM Fight Club, per Jed Meshew of MMA Fighting.

"[Conor McGregor] will never beat Mayweather in his life at boxing," Brown said. "He could train for his whole life, I mean there's guys like Canelo or Pacquiao - guys who have trained their entire life only boxing - they're some of the best boxers in the world and didn't come close to beating Mayweather."

According to 'The Immortal', McGregor isn't even that good of a boxer anyway and should stick to the Octagon.

"McGregor's not even that good of a boxer. I don't know why people would even think that this fight should be made. It's insane to me because he's not even really a good boxer. You have to be an insanely good boxer to even hang with Mayweather. I think it's kind of disrespectful to Mayweather. You know it's just a lot of talk ... the two of them just want to stay in the news and be relevant still. Maybe if they do make it it's for a money thing. It's not really an interesting fight by any means."

McGregor was expected to rematch Nate Diaz at UFC 200 but was pulled from the pay-per-view after refusing to fulfil media obligations in Las Vegas. And, although the Irishman continues to tease at a boxing showdown with Mayweather, it's anticipated that he'll headline the UFC 202 PPV with Diaz in August.

Matt Brown will square off with Demian Maia on the FOX Sports preliminaries later this evening at UFC 198. The event takes place at Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil.
