Mousasi on Machida's failed test: 'I'm not a rocket scientist, but I knew' 7-keto-DHEA was banned

Gegard Mousasi has been a willing critic of Lyoto Machida since the two men fought in Brazil back in 2014. Now that Machida was flagged by USADA for admitting DHEA use, Mousasi isn't about to let him off the hook.

Maybe Gegard Mousasi had a point. A few months after he fought Lyoto Machida, the Iranian-born Dutchman reflected on the fight. At the time it seemed like he was searching for excuses for a loss. Mousasi dropped a unanimous decision to Machida in the main event of the UFC's trip to Jaragua do Sul, Brazil, a result he suggested may have been aided by Machida putting "oil in his body" and fighting without the "newer drug policy."

Without much in the way of evidence, those claims didn't seem to hold a lot of water. However, with Machida now under suspension after admitting to USADA officials that he unknowingly using a banned substance, Mousasi sat down for an interview on the MMA Hour to talk about his former opponent (transcript via MMAFighting):

"I think sometimes I say things, and when it's the truth, still people are going to complain," Mousasi said Monday on The MMA Hour. "You don't like the truth? You want me to tell you something you like, just because you want to hear it? You want me to say, ‘oh Machida, he beat me, he's such a fair fighter?' I don't know what people want to hear. They don't like to hear the truth. They are so stupid.

"It's ridiculous. Of course the USADA testing is coming, people are not going to use the typical, I don't know, steroids or whatever. They're going to use replacements. I'm not a rocket scientist, but I knew that was a banned substance, so he should've known also. And that supplement doesn't do anything for you probably. I don't know, from what I've read it's for old people or something. So I don't know. I think justice is being served."

Mousasi went on to clarify that, in his mind, he's not being a "bad loser," rather that by potentially having cheated in the bout, Machida "stole" from him. Mousasi claims that he lost opportunities to do damage in that fight because Machida was so greased that "I flew down his back like a chimney."

Machida was supposed to fight Dan Henderson at UFC on Fox 19, but the fight was scrapped just days out, after Machida's 7-keto-DHEA use came to light. He's currently under temporary suspension, as a long term punishment has not yet been decided.
