Wanderlei Silva's partner for his tag team matchup against Kazushi Sakuraba and Hideo Tokoro in the Rizin Fighting Federation 3 main event later this month was just revealed. As announced on a press conference in Japan, Wand will team up with former opponent and mixed martial arts pioneer Kiyoshi Tamura.
Silva and Tamura fought at PRIDE 19 in 2002. The Axe Murderer won via second-round knockout. Wanderlei also discussed the match up at The MMA Hour on Monday.
"I’m gonna fight on (where) Sakuraba is better -- supposed to be better than me," Silva told Helwani. "I stopped training fighting for close to three years and this happened (too) fast, and I have more time to prepare myself. I like to do my best and make good shows, and this is like a warm-up to come back to the ring."
Tamura (32-13-3) hasn't fought professionally since 2008 when he defeated Sakuraba by decision at K-1 Dynamite!! Power of Courage. The 46-year old also owns a win over his other future tag team opponent, Tokoro, which came by way of submission.
Rizin FF 3 takes place live from the Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya, Japan on April 17.
