Fedor Emelianenko's next fight could take place in front of his Russian countrymen, despite being signed to a Japanese promotion for the time being.
According to the Russian heavyweight who spoke to Match TV during the Fight Nights broadcast last week in Moscow, his next fight with RIZIN could take place in one of Russia's major cities.
"We are planning a lot of things. God willing, we can even fight in Russia," Fedor said (h/t Tass.ru). "I would like to fight in front of my fellow countrymen."
While Fedor's return fight following a nearly four years away took place in the Saitama Super Arena in Japan, it was clear that he remains most popular in his native land. The Minister of Sport, Vitaly Mutko, even requested that Fedor's next fight take place in Russia instead of Japan. Rizin already scheduled their next Rizin show for April 17 in Nagoya City, but confirmed that they are interested in hosting a show in Russia afterwards.
Fedor is expected to return to the ring this summer.
