Despite some speculation about a super-fight against Cris Cyborg, Bloody Elbow has learned through a source close to Invicta Fighting Championships, that 135lb champ Tonya Evinger is expected to defend her title versus Colleen Schneider at Invicta FC 17.
Evinger (17-5), who is on an 8-fight win streak, last defended her belt at Invicta FC 14 this past September - defeating Pannie Kianzad via TKO. Schneider on the other hand, improved to a 10-6 record with a split decision victory over Raquel Pa'aluhi at Invicta Fighting Championship 15.
The source, who does not wish to be named, stressed that the proposed title fight is yet to receive clearance from a commission.
Last month, Invicta President Shannon Knapp, in conversation with Marc Raimondi of MMAFighting, stated that she was "open" to a super fight between Evinger and Invicta featherweight champion Cristiane 'Cyborg' Justino.
Knapp was quoted in saying that Evinger promises to, "fight anybody in any weight class" and that she had expressed interest in a bout with the 15-1 Justino. Raimondi also stated that Justino herself was "open" to the contest. However, it would appear that a super fight between the two Invicta champions will have to wait, for now.
Invicta FC 17 is expected to take place on May 7th in California.
