UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is scheduled to defend his belt against top contender Henry Cejudo in the co-main event of UFC 197 later this year. The matchup was announced on Saturday's UFC Fight Night 82 broadcast on FOX Sports 1.
Johnson (23-2-1) is coming off his seventh-consecutive title defense in a rematch with John Dodson at UFC 191 in September. His other 2015 championship victory was over rising star Kyoji Horiguchi by fifth-round submission after dominating the earlier rounds.
In his Octagon debut at the end of 2014, Cejudo (10-0) dominated Dustin Kimura for three rounds en route to a clear unanimous decision win. The Olympic Gold Medalist followed up his first UFC win with three more in 2015 over Chris Cariaso, Chico Camus and most recently Jussier Formiga.
UFC 197 takes place live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 23. In the main event, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier squares off with former titleholder Jon Jones in a highly anticipated rematch.
