Bellator 150 preview and predictions: No title fight

New, comment

With a title fight removed from the card at the last minute, Bellator 150 is light on relevance.

Bellator 150 goes down in Mulvane, KS later today, but it's missing the centerpiece of the event. Marcos Galvao was expected to defend his bantamweight title against Eduardo Dantas in the headliner, but he was forced off the card just one day before their rematch was set to go down. With no time to find a suitable replacement, Dantas was removed from the card as well and now Cheick Kongo takes on Vinicius Queiroz in the main event.

Here's a brief preview of some of the main card fights, with a prediction or two thrown in.

Cheick Kongo vs. Vinicius Queiroz

Kongo has been with Belaltor for over two years now, posting a respectable 6-2 record in the promotion. He's coming off a decision win over former champ Alexander Volkov last June. Queiroz returned from a two-year hiatus from the sport to submit Ewerton Teixeira late last year. Despite that, this fight is expected to be contested on the feet. Kongo has a big experience advantage, but Queiroz might have a bit of a power advantage nowadays. To be honest, it's not a great fight. But Kongo should prevail.

Prediction: Cheick Kongo by decision

Bobby Cooper vs. David Rickels

Rickels has spent a large portion of his career in Bellator, going 10-4 with 1 NC while competing at welterweight and lightweight. He was given a shot at the promotion's lightweight title after winning a tournament in 2013, but came up short against Michael Chandler. In his most recent bout, a rematch with Chandler ended with the same result.

Cooper has two Bellator fights, both on the undercard, which he won.

This is quite clearly a showcase for Rickels to get back on the good side of things. He's an entertaining character and a good fighter, and Bellator wants to continue to use him as a lightweight contender. He's also a local draw. So I can't see this one lasting too long.

Prediction: David Rickels by decision.

Francisco France vs. Kendall Grove

Prediction: Kendall Grove by submission, round 2

Lena Ovchynnikova vs. Rebecca Ruth

Prediction: Lena Ovchynnikova by decision

Gaston Reyno vs. Chuka Willis

Prediction: Gaston Reyno by decision
