Bellator 149 results - Royce Gracie controversially TKOs Ken Shamrock in 1st round

In the main event of Bellator 149 at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX, Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie capped off their trilogy with a bizarre ending, and the first recorded knockout win of Royce's career.

After lavish entrances for both men, Bellator 149 headliners Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie locked horns for a 3rd (and presumably) final time in their HOF careers. Shamrock had failed to defeat the BJJ legend in two previous attempts in the UFC, tapping out once and drawing in the rematch. Would tonight produce that elusive win for the 52-year-old against his 49-year-old foe? We'd soon find out.

Gracie threw a few kicks as Shamrock moved away in an otherwise tepid opening 2 minutes. All of a sudden, Gracie kneed Shamrock in the clinch which hurt him. Shamrock was then taken down and Gracie eventually pounded him out for the stoppage. Shamrock believed he was kneed in the groin. The replays backed that up. Royce clearly drove his left knee into Shamrock's groin area, prompting a delayed reaction as Shamrock winced in pain. In the post-fight, Shamrock complained about the knee to the groin and appeared to say that Royce did it on purpose.

Official result: Royce Gracie def. Ken Shamrock via TKO (strikes) at 2:22 of round 1

Royce Gracie controversially records the first knockout of his career. Shamrock said he was disappointed and you could hear it in his voice, as he's now 0-2-1 against Gracie.
