UFC 206: Anthony Pettis misses weight

Pettis came in 3 pounds over the featherweight limit for what would have been an interim title bout with Max Holloway.

Former UFC lightweight champ Anthony Pettis will not be the UFC interim featherweight champ. He came in 3 pounds over the official 145 pound limit for a title bout.

Max Holloway made weight and according to Ariel Helwani will still be eligible to claim the interim title with a win. Pettis will also give up 20% of his purse to Holloway.

Pettis has fought once before at featherweight and weighed in at 146 pounds for that bout. In non-title bouts, fighters are allowed to be one pound over.

Pettis vs. Holloway became an interim title bout following a complicated chain of events. First, featherweight champ Conor McGregor was stripped of his 145 pound title which was awarded to ex-champ Jose Aldo. Then, light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier pulled out of his bout with Anthony Johnson which was to have headlined UFC 206. Finally, the Pettis-Holloway bout was promoted to top of the UFC 206 card and made an interim title fight.
