Nick Diaz: Nate was smoking kush, not CBD oil at UFC 202 presser

New, comments

Nick Diaz claims his younger brother Nate was actually getting high during his press obligations after UFC 202.

After going through a five-round war with Conor McGregor at UFC 202, Nate Diaz was seen puffing from a vape pen during his post-fight media obligations. He later revealed that it was cannabidiol (CBD) oil, the non-psychoactive component of cannabis used for medical purposes.

"It's CBD. It helps with healing process and inflammation and stuff like that,” Diaz said. “You want to get this for before or after the fight, in training, to make your life a better place."

Such actions did not go unnoticed by the United States Anti-Doping agency (USADA), but merely gave Diaz a public warning for using the vape pen. But according to elder brother Nick, Nate was not taking in CBD.

"That wasn't CBD. He was smoking the chronic. That was some kush,” the elder Diaz said during his recent appearance on The Jasta Show.

According to USADA rules, cannabis use without an approved Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) is prohibited in-competition. Medical marijuana, such as CBD oil, is within the TUE process.

But as far as cannabis being a performance enhancing drug, Nick says it is, to some extent.

"I do think it's a performance enhancing drug, but I mean like, so are vitamins,” Diaz argued. “People get really misconstrued on that whole thing.”
